RMT Inc.

  History

RMT, Inc. was founded in 1977 by three former Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) environmental managers who specialized in solid and hazardous waste management. The early corporate plan for RMT was to provide industrial clients with full–service waste management and groundwater quality consulting services–from conceptual regulatory permitting to investigation, design, construction engineering, and monitoring.

1983 represented a hallmark year for RMT when Wisconsin Power & Light Holdings (now Alliant Energy Corporation) purchased the company, bringing environment and energy together for the first time and laying the groundwork for RMT's future strategic direction. RMT formalized our Construction Services unit and executed the company's first turnkey construction project in 1994, another important milestone for the future.

RMT first ventured into the energy arena by providing siting, permitting, environmental documentation and engineering for utilities and independent power producers. This background, along with a strong construction management expertise, made RMT a natural home for Alliant Energy's growing wind energy platform, WindConnect. Launched in 1998, WindConnect had the high–voltage electrical expertise and experience that RMT needed to transform into a full–service clean energy construction and engineering company. 2005 was a banner year for RMT's wind energy services offering, as the company worked with WindConnect to complete the 230–MW Maple Ridge Wind Farm in New York. Not long after, RMT established a stronger presence in the renewable energy market by bringing WindConnect under the RMT umbrella to deliver complete site–to–grid wind energy services.

From 2000–2010, RMT was involved in the design and construction of over 3,800 MW of wind energy. The acquisition of MHA in San Mateo in 2007 expanded RMT's upfront facility siting services and brought new expertise in geothermal energy. In 2010, RMT further expanded the company's renewable energy offerings with our foray into the solar energy market at Pilesgrove Solar, the largest solar energy facility in the Northeastern U.S.

In 2011, RMT closed the sale transaction of its Environmental Business Unit, so that the company could focus solely on providing siting, permitting, engineering, and construction services to the renewable energy infrastructure market. With over 5,000 MW of renewable energy design and construction experience under our belts, RMT's singular focus today is on building better, more reliable renewable energy facilities. We build clean energy. It's all we do.
