RMT'S ROLE:
- Engineering design, procurement, and construction of civil and electrical system BOP, including the following:
- Access roads, crane pads, crane paths, and associated infrastructure
- Spread-footing foundations
- 23 kV underground collector system
- 23/46 kV step-up substation
- Erection and mechanical completion of Clipper wind turbine generators
- 7,000 SF O&M building
- 10,736 SF Battery Equipment Storage System (BESS) enclosure building and installation of BESS equipment
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
- Project was completed in January 2011
- Kahuku Wind has the capacity to generate enough electricity to power over 7,700 homes annually
- Kahuku Wind offsets the combustion of approximately 41,000 tons of coal per year, which will reduce the equivalent of 54,000 tons of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere annually
- RMT embraced the island culture and participated in traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremonies during construction of the project
- Project was completed without a single losttime incident
