RMT'S ROLE:

  • Engineering design, procurement, and construction of civil and electrical system BOP, including the following:
  • Access roads, crane pads, crane paths, and associated infrastructure
  • Spread-footing foundations
  • 23 kV underground collector system
  • 23/46 kV step-up substation
  • Erection and mechanical completion of Clipper wind turbine generators
  • 7,000 SF O&M building
  • 10,736 SF Battery Equipment Storage System (BESS) enclosure building and installation of BESS equipment

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Project was completed in January 2011
  • Kahuku Wind has the capacity to generate enough electricity to power over 7,700 homes annually
  • Kahuku Wind offsets the combustion of approximately 41,000 tons of coal per year, which will reduce the equivalent of 54,000 tons of CO2 emissions to the atmosphere annually
  • RMT embraced the island culture and participated in traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremonies during construction of the project
  • Project was completed without a single losttime incident
